Life in Reception
In Reception, children enjoy going on lots of adventures through the 7 areas of learning. Their day is spent learning, discovering and exploring both indoors and outdoors through adult directed and independent learning adventures.
We update the children’s daily adventures on Tapestry, please ensure you check in daily to see what adventure your child has been on.
Early Reading: Monster Phonics
In Nursery your child will be developing the seven aspects of sound: environmental, instrumental, body sounds, rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, voice sounds and oral blending and segmenting. This will be delivered daily through our chosen phonic scheme, Monster Phonics.
In Autumn term children in Nursery will work on their phase 1 phonics skills by fine tuning their listening and understanding skills.
We do this by talking with a partner, playing sound games, going on listening walks, paying close attention to sounds in our environment and many things more.
Please see the parent guide in the Key Documents section at the bottom of this page for more information.
Home Reading
Your child will have the opportunity to visit our school library once a week. Whilst in the library the children will listen to a story and explore different genres and books. The children really enjoy the calm, inviting environment.
Each week the children can select a book from our class library to bring home to read and enjoy with their family. This book is for reading for pleasure. You should read this story aloud to your child. A good time to do this would be each night before bed.
